It’s been a busy week for us. Movers from Williams Transfer in Tupelo came Thursday and loaded our stuff in Tupelo. BTW, it was snowing while they were loading. Brrrrr.

No need to let a little snow get in the way of moving day! (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
The guys then made the trip to New Orleans and met us at the apartment at 8 a.m. Friday. Friday, it was nothing but blue skies and sunshine in New Orleans. Nice change.
Word of advice to fellow newcomers: Make sure your moving truck has directions on roads that will accommodate a big truck. Our truck had to detour because of construction and the top of the truck pulled down a cable hanging overhead. Ruh roh.
We’ve been unloading and unpacking ever since. Some of the photo highlights from our move …
- Boxes, boxes everywhere. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- 30 degree weather + spiked hot chocolate + friends = packed boxes
- Frank the Cat stayed out of the moving chaos – at least for a few minutes. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- Movers from Tupelo-based Williams Transfer arrived promptly at 8 a.m. And what are they greeted with? A big ol’ snow flurry. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- The movers wrapped up the couches with plastic wrap. The plastic helps reduce the size of the cushion and it protects it from grime during the trip. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)

- The snow made the loading ramp slick so we put down some cheap cat litter. It provided traction, but it later turned into a mess. Not sure if salt would damage the hardwood floors in the house. Something to look into for the future. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- Oh boy! That’s a big china cabinet. It previously was a built-in cabinet in a 1920s home. It was torn out during a remodel job up the road. Will it fit out the door in one piece? (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- Yes, it will. Way to go, guys! (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- And it’s loaded safely onto the truck. The snow flurry stopped, but it stuck on the ground for an hour or two. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- Frank the Cat kept watch over the movers from his perch in the kitchen. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- The movers wrapped the mattress in plastic. It compressed the cushion (it popped right back up once they took it off) and protected it during the trip. The box springs were put in their own huge boxes. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- The movers put cardboard down to protect the floors. Good thing! But, the melted snow/cat litter mix left a mess elsewhere. I’m going to be a mopping machine this weekend. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- I moved my potted plants – hibiscus, bromeliad, aloes, cactus – myself. They fit in the trunk and it reduced the time they had to spend in the cold night air. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- The moving truck made it to New Orleans! It detoured because of construction and took out an overhead cable, but everything else was fine. The guys found an empty strip of grass off the road to park on. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- The unloading process took about four hours. No major problems except for this headboard. It wouldn’t fit up the stairs because a decorative board prevented it from making it up the stairs. Our options – get a new bed or saw off the board. You better believe that board is getting chopped off. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- Harry’s Ace Hardware is on Magazine Street and is the closest hardware store to our apartment, according to Google Maps. I hustled over there and bought an $8 saw to fix our bed problem. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- The board was sawed off and the bed made it upstairs. Score! We had to remove the front door to get the couch in but the guys got everything else in without changes to the furniture or apartment. (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
- All done! That’s Terrance closing the doors. Thanks, Williams Transfer! (photo by Carlie Kollath Wells/New in NOLA)
Glad the first round went as smooth as it did…I like the Saran wrap idea for easy protection!
Yeah, the plastic wrap was a superb idea. They had huge rolls on wands. Wrapped couches, love seat and mattress. The other furniture – rocking chair and dresser – were wrapped in big padded blankets.
Only found one broken gravy boat so far. Looking good š
Those guys are Great! So glad your move went smoothly. But I am slightly jealous of the snow. None of that down here in La.
The snow was nice, but it created mud that’s all over the house now. Mopped floors twice and think it will take at least 2 more moppings to clean things up.
