Our first New Orleans wedding

The New in NOLA crew was fortunate to celebrate the blessed matrimony of two of its own this weekend. Congrats to Margaret and Chapman!

They went with a New Orleans-themed wedding and we thought it was spectacular. From the faux street tiles on the cake to the brass band to the hot sauce favors, there was so much #NOLAlove in the air.

A few things we learned about New Orleans weddings from this experience:

– guests should take a hanky to the wedding in case there is a second line.

– a second line is a celebratory dance led by the couple and followed by a brass band and then the guests. Here’s what the second line looked like this weekend:

– Along with something old, new, borrowed and blue, New Orleans brides secure decorated umbrellas for the second line. Each one is different but they are normally over the top – sequins, feathers, monograms, etc.

Margaret also is the daughter of Patsy R. Brumfield, our esteemed cooking columnist on New in NOLA. Congrats to you both!
