Our friend, Satyajit Dixit, has started a Meetup group that’s perfect for meeting other newbies. Meetup is an online community that helps people “meetup” in real life. Some groups are general interest, while others are grouped around specific interests.

The Exploring New Orleans group goes to festivals, eats at restaurants, does neighborhood tours, goes to baseball games and does pretty much every other activity you want to do as a new person in New Orleans. The group is open to everyone, not just newbies.

The explorers are going on an Abita Brewery tour this weekend. It’s full, but you can get on the wait list. Next weekend, the group is doing a kayak trip Saturday and a picnic Sunday. And there’s yet another event on the July 4th. Seriously, this is a great, active group.
