Dat Dog hosts food trucks tonight

Fun event alert – Dat Dog is hosting a food truck fest tonight. We don’t see a downside to this happy hour/dinner option.

BTW, Dat Dog is the gourmet hot dog restaurant in New Orleans. The menu includes everything from alligator dogs to classic Chicago-style hot dogs to crawfish sausage (menu). Word of advice – know what you want when you get up to the register. You can mix and match whatever toppings you want and it gets overwhelming if it is your first time. You might want to start with the suggested toppings for the dog you order and get more creative next time.

Dat Dog has two locations – one on Freret (original location) and one on Magazine. Tonight’s fest is at the Freret location.

Our New Orleans food adventures 6/3/13

We’re eating our way through New Orleans. Restaurants this week included Korea House, Taceaux Loceaux, Mr. Ed’s, Whole Foods and CC’s. Plus, we went to the New Orleans Oyster Festival (more pix).

Check out the full post on Storify.

  1. We hit up the salad bar and deli at @WholeFoods/@WFM_louisiana for a quick lunch. The deli in Metairie is significantly bigger than the Uptown one.

#NewinNOLA meet-up: Let’s go lawn bowling

Looking for something to do Memorial Day weekend? Join us Saturday for lawn bowling (bocce) on the neutral ground.

FYI – the neutral ground is the grassy median in the middle of the street. NewInNOLA_Logo

New in NOLA’s Margaret and Chapman will provide the bocce balls & the music. Bring yourselves, any additional snacks or drinks you want and any other lawn games you want to add to the mix.  Lawn darts is the holy grail here, but croquet and horseshoes are always winners too.

Our New Orleans food adventures 5/20/13

New Orleans is a foodie city and we eat out quite a bit. It helps us give good recommendations when our out-of-town visitors ask us where they should eat. Here’s some photo evidence of our culinary adventures this past week or so.
Check out the full post on Storify for the prettier version of the photos.
  1. We tried Bacchanal Wine for the first time. Had a fun #NewinNOLA meet-up and eat-up.
  2. Beautiful night at #bacchanalwine. Enjoying our first experience here. #nola

Where to eat in New Orleans (via HungryNomad.net)

We’ve been inundated with visitors since we moved to New Orleans. Our couch has never been in more demand. And when people come, we know the first question they will ask: Where should we eat?

We’re still learning the answers to that. We enjoyed The Hungry Nomad‘s suggestions to her visitors.

Let’s face it. Besides the music and drinking scene, most people come to New Orleans for the food. That is why it’s essential to spend your time wisely and get the most the city has to offer in food.

Photos of Mardi Gras floats being made

Work has started already for Mardi Gras 2014 floats at the Royal Artists workshop on Bordeaux Street in Uptown New Orleans. The den doors are open during the day so we occasionally sneak a pic.  The den holds the floats for Proteus and Chaos and we’ve heard rumors about ball decor for Rex.

If you want to be nosy like us, walk by the den during the day when the weather is nice. It’s a tan-colored warehouse on Bordeaux between Laurel and Annunciation. There are no signs (shhhh- it’s a secret). Here’s the story NOLA.com did in 2011 about the Royal Artists’ Uptown den.

Some of what we’ve seen the past few days:
